Tornadoes are among the most destructive natural phenomena, capable of causing severe damage to properties and posing significant threats to human safety. In Australia, these storms can rapidly form, characterised by intense winds that can exceed 300 kilometres per hour, leading to flying debris and extensive injury risks. The impact of tornadoes is often amplified by their unpredictable nature and the potential for sudden formation in severe weather conditions. Understanding the dangers they pose, including their ability to uproot trees, obliterate buildings, and disrupt infrastructure, is vital for effective preparedness and safety measures in affected regions. It’s essential to stay informed and vigilant to minimise risks during tornado activity.

What are the Dangers of a Tornado ?

Last month, in September of 2021, a tornado hit western New South Wales. Two people went to the hospital but about a dozen properties were damaged. There was up to 30 kilometers of power line damage. This means that not only were people injured, they also did not have many ways to communicate clearly or find help. This area is still quite rural, meaning there was less damage than in a big city. However, this implies they may have fewer resources and a more difficult time communicating. This kind of area, agricultural land, is flat and quite large. They are the perfect storm starters because of their nature and climate around.

How to take appropriate precautions?

Tornadoes are a natural disaster, they are powerful and difficult to predict ahead of time. However, there are still ways to protect oneself and stay ready. It is essential for citizens, especially in risk areas, to stay aware of the weather. Having educational documents as reminders such as brochures could save lives. In those situations, communication and awareness are key. If stuck in a tornado, it is important to take shelter and cover one’s head. Do not leave the safe zone until it is possible to tell the tornado is over

Why Hazavoid?

Hazavoid is the world’s leading Wireless Alarm System. Both the Hazavoid Wireless Alarm System (pictured above) and the Hazavoid Wireless Alert Beacon System can also work with a backup battery and solar power. This means they will always provide protection, even during natural disasters when there is no power for kilometers around. In certain situations of stress and danger, communication and awareness will make the biggest difference. Hazavoid solutions offer clear, loud, and continuous signaling in the form of alert tones and LED lights.
